I’m a final year Mechanical Engineering student on track to finish my degree with 1st class honours. After my A-levels (including Maths and Physics), I worked for a full year in industry with 3T RPD and since have undertaken engineering internships every summer with Rolls-Royce and Arup. With my experience, in industry, education and STEM outreach I have developed strong communication skills and a passion to engage students in learning about Maths and English. In my spare time I really enjoy DIY and building things around my family home, I love hands on practical work such as building, sewing and carpentry. I’ve also played Rugby Union for the last 5 years, and enjoy watching Sheffield Tigers on the weekend when I’m at university.

My experience as a STEM ambassador has also given me strong communication skills and a passion to engage students in learning about maths and physics. Furthermore, I hold an advanced DBS certificate earnt through the DEBP STEM Hub. I have spent time outside of university commitments to volunteer as the local IMechE young members Education Officer, Bloodhound LSR Ambassador and mentored those in first year both academically and personally for the past 3 years. The role involved me running STEM based activities at local STEM days/Engineering Extravaganzas, working with Guide/Scout groups, schools and education trusts. Over the course of the three years, I have accrued over 55 CPD hours as a STEM Ambassador. Across the different events I have worked with students from years 4-11. The success of the events and my personal passion for working with children and inspiring them to get involved in STEM, has equipped me with skills to work well with students across several academic years. With 16 months experience in industry I hold the necessary time management, organisation and communication skills to work as a young professional and can help students apply theoretical knowledge to real-life applications. Such as those I have worked on first hand at 3T RPD, Rolls-Royce and Arup. Having had to finish my bachelor’s degree under the circumstances introduced by COVID-19, I empathize with the anxiety and frustration that students will currently be under to bridge their knowledge gap without face-to-face teaching. Additionally, I know the positive impact that an academic who is well-versed using online tools, organised, confident and well-prepared has had on my final months of education, and I will strive to do even better for the students that I work with.
